Tensions between Iran and the United Arab Emirates have sharply escalated following missile and drone strikes and a stern warning from Tehran. Statements carried by Tasnim News Agency quoted an Iranian military source cautioning the UAE against aligning with Israel, warning of severe consequences if provoked.
UAE Intercepts Missiles and Drones
The UAE reported intercepting multiple missiles and drones, though damage to an oil facility and injuries were confirmed. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned both the United States and the UAE to avoid deeper conflict.
US Increases Operations in Strait of Hormuz
Meanwhile, the United States Central Command says it has increased operations in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming engagement with Iranian vessels—an assertion denied by Tehran. The US military's heightened presence in the strategic waterway has further stoked fears of a broader confrontation.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned of massive retaliation if the UAE or the US takes further aggressive actions. The IRGC has reportedly deployed new naval assets, including fast attack boats and drones, to the region.
The escalation marks one of the most serious crises in the Gulf in recent years, with global energy markets on edge due to the potential disruption of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for about one-fifth of the world's petroleum.
Analysts warn that any miscalculation could trigger a wider war, drawing in regional powers and global actors. Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation have so far yielded little progress.
