Iran's Consul General in Mumbai Calls for Dialogue-Based Solutions Amid West Asia Tensions
In a recent statement, Saeid Reza Mosayeb Motlagh, the Iranian Consul General in Mumbai, reiterated Iran's longstanding advocacy for dialogue and diplomacy as the primary means to address and resolve the escalating conflicts in West Asia. Speaking to ANI, Motlagh placed the blame for recent tensions squarely on what he referred to as attacks by the United States and the 'Zionist regime' of Israel, asserting that these actions have forced Iran into a defensive posture.
Iran's Response Framed as Self-Defence
Motlagh explained that the situation in the region deteriorated significantly after Iran itself came under attack. He emphasized that Tehran's subsequent actions were carried out purely in self-defence, a response necessitated by the aggressive moves of its adversaries. "If peace were to prevail in the region, the United States and the Zionist regime should not have attacked us," he stated, highlighting that these entities bear full responsibility for the heightened tensions and intensified conflict.
He further criticized the attacks as being conducted "without any legitimate legal justification or valid objective," which he said has placed Iran under immense pressure and precipitated a broad crisis. According to Motlagh, Iran has consistently demonstrated a willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts from the outset, but its opponents have shown a clear lack of commitment to such dialogue-based approaches.
Accountability and International Law
The Iranian envoy stressed the importance of holding those responsible for the attacks accountable. He called upon all nations to actively engage with the aggressor parties, urging them to adhere to the principles outlined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law. "They should play an active role by engaging in dialogue with the party that initiated the war and compel it to cease such actions worldwide," Motlagh asserted.
He elaborated that this issue extends beyond Iran, pointing to historical precedents where aggressive actions have led to the destruction of other nations. "In the past, they have destroyed whichever country they chose, using harsh measures... Today, however, they are confronted with a nation that stands resolutely in opposition," he remarked, underscoring Iran's determination to resist such unilateral actions.
Rejection of Responsibility for Global Economic Impacts
When questioned about Iran's potential role in preventing a global economic crisis that could arise from the conflict, Motlagh firmly rejected any suggestion of responsibility. "Under no circumstances. Those who attacked us are responsible, and we have acted solely in self-defence," he declared. He added that despite prior warnings about the severe consequences of war, the attacks proceeded, and the aggressors should have considered these outcomes more carefully.
Motlagh concluded by reiterating Iran's call for the international community to ensure that such unilateral actions are not repeated against any country, emphasizing the need for collective action to uphold peace and stability in accordance with global legal frameworks.
