Karnataka Railway Action Committee Presents Demands to Union Minister for Enhanced North Karnataka Connectivity
A delegation from the Karnataka State Railway Action Committee held a crucial meeting with Union Minister of State for Railways, V Somanna, at his residence office in New Delhi on Saturday. The group submitted a detailed memorandum outlining urgent requests for improved rail connectivity across various parts of North Karnataka, aiming to boost regional development and passenger convenience.
Key Demands for Train Service Restoration and Expansion
The delegation strongly urged the minister to reinstate the Mysuru–Ajmer train service on its original route via Chitradurga, Rayadurg, Ballari, and Hosapete, operating it at least once a week. This restoration is seen as vital for reconnecting these areas and facilitating smoother travel for residents and businesses alike.
Additionally, the committee requested that the same train be operated once weekly via Davanagere and Kotturu, ensuring passengers in both regions benefit from enhanced accessibility and reduced travel times. These proposals highlight a strategic approach to maximizing rail utility across North Karnataka.
Progress on Long-Pending Railway Line and New Service Appeals
The members expressed appreciation for Minister Somanna's positive response to the long-standing demand for the Ballari–Siruguppa–Sindhanur railway line, thanking him for recommending its implementation. This development marks a significant step forward in addressing infrastructure gaps in the region.
Further, the delegation appealed for the introduction of advanced train services on the Ballari route, specifically suggesting a Vande Bharat, superfast Jan Shatabdi, or intercity train. Such initiatives are expected to dramatically improve connectivity, reduce journey durations, and support economic growth in North Karnataka.
Delegation Leadership and Participants
The meeting was led by Committee President KM Maheshwaraswamy, with key attendees including Siruguppa Rice Mill Owners' Association President NG Basavarajappa, former APMC Director Palleed Yogaraj, Koluru Chandrashekaragouda, and Kosagi Nagaraj Shetty. Their collective presence underscored the broad-based support for these railway enhancements from various community and industry stakeholders.
This engagement reflects ongoing efforts to prioritize rail infrastructure in Karnataka, aligning with broader goals of regional connectivity and development. The committee's proactive approach in presenting these demands directly to the Union Minister signals a strong commitment to advancing North Karnataka's transportation network.
