New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent over the US attack on a commercial vessel in the Gulf, which resulted in the deaths of three Indians. In a post on X, Kejriwal held US President Donald Trump accountable for the loss of Indian lives, calling him a cowardly, cold-blooded murderer. He expressed regret that PM Modi remained silent, but asserted that soon India will have a strong Prime Minister who will make Trump pay for his misdeeds.
In an accompanying video, Kejriwal stated that the US attacked commercial ships carrying Indian nationals on three separate days, yet PM Modi did not speak out. He highlighted that 68 Indian nationals were on board the three ships. Kejriwal also criticized Modi's response to a congratulatory message from Trump on becoming India's longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister.
Kejriwal further alleged that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a threatening response when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar protested the US attack on the commercial ship. According to Kejriwal, Rubio did not express regret or sorrow over the deaths of three Indians, but instead threatened that if America's orders are not followed, there would be consequences.
Kejriwal noted that people are angry over the US action and the government's response. He questioned why countries like Russia and China would have taken the United States to task if their nationals were killed, and asked what compulsion prevented PM Modi from speaking on the matter.
Congress Also Criticizes Government
The Congress party has also criticized the government's response to the US military action on a commercial ship that killed three Indians. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday accused PM Modi of remaining silent over the deaths, stating that silence is not a substitute for accountability. In a post on X, Kharge accused the Modi government of belittling India's global standing and sovereignty, and alleged that national interests are being surrendered on a daily basis.
Kharge expressed that the nation was waiting for a public statement or condolence message from PM Modi, but none came. He said, You spoke about not allowing the country to bow, but no proof is now required that you have belittled India's global standing and sovereignty. Our national interests are being surrendered on a daily basis, and you have the audacity to sugarcoat it with the Vishwaguru narrative.
Kharge recalled that India used to be a Vishwaguru when it maintained strategic autonomy and followed the policy of Non-Alignment. The world listened to us when all previous governments followed this consistent policy of not surrendering. He emphasized that Indian lives cannot be treated as an afterthought in matters of foreign policy, and that the nation deserves clarity and the families deserve justice.
