Mumbai Girl's Touching Gesture with Gold Earrings for War-Hit Iran

In a poignant display of solidarity, a young girl in Mumbai moved the representative of Iran's supreme leader by offering her gold earrings to help the conflict-ravaged nation. The emotional incident occurred during a condolence gathering at the historic Masjid-e-Iranian in Dongri on Sunday, following the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei.

Overwhelming Kindness in India's Financial Capital

Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the official representative of Iran's supreme leader in India, expressed being deeply touched by the girl's selfless act. "I was touched. I cried at the girl's gesture, her pure heart and intention," Ilahi revealed. He participated in multiple condolence meetings across Mumbai, including at Islam Gymkhana near Marine Lines and Habib Esmail Hospital in Dongri, organized by the Habib Group of Trusts and Mumbai Aman Committee.

Ilahi, who has visited Mumbai numerous times, emphasized that the city transcends its reputation as merely a financial hub. "I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the people in the city which is not just a financial centre but a cultural centre too," he stated. He added that without his traditional headgear and black robe, many locals mistake him for an Indian, underscoring the cultural connections.

Insights into Iran's New Leadership and Historical Ties

As a close friend of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late supreme leader, Ilahi provided intimate details about Iran's new leadership. He described the successor as "a simple man who lives in a rented house," sharing an anecdote from a trip to Mecca where Khamenei couldn't afford a $20 shirt and settled for a $10 alternative, astonishing the shopkeeper who discovered his identity.

Ilahi highlighted the profound historical bond between India and Iran, noting that Khamenei authored seventy-five books, with his first dedicated to India. "Before I came to India, he told me to read up on the history of India and the historical and civilisational relationship India and Iran have," Ilahi recalled. This fascination extended to a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initially scheduled for fifteen to twenty minutes but extending beyond an hour as Khamenei engaged in discussions about India's rich history and harmonious multicultural society.

Khamenei held great admiration for Indian intellectuals, particularly Jawaharlal Nehru, whose works he revered. "He revered many Indian writers and statesmen, especially Jawaharlal Nehru, who wrote some wonderful books," Ilahi mentioned.

Humanitarian Responses and Calls for Peace

Amid the escalating Middle East conflict, now entering its thirtieth day with Iran threatening U.S. universities and Kuwait responding to missile and drone attacks, humanitarian efforts are gaining momentum. Javed Shroff, chairman of the Habib Group of Trusts, condemned the violence, asserting, "War was imposed on Iran, but it must end as war brings disaster." He announced plans to send medical assistance and a team of professionals to Iran after consulting with Ilahi.

In another gesture of support, former Navy chief Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat presented a piece of gold from his wife, advocate Niloufer Bhagwat, further illustrating the widespread compassion from Mumbai's community.

The gathering not only mourned the loss but also reinforced the cultural and humanitarian bridges between India and Iran, showcasing Mumbai's role as a beacon of empathy amidst global tensions.
