Nagpur Railway Station Platform 2 to Close for 52 Days for Major Infrastructure Upgrade
In a significant development for rail infrastructure in the region, Platform No. 2 at Nagpur railway station will remain completely closed for a period of 52 days, starting from April 8 and continuing through May 29. This extended closure is essential to facilitate critical foundation work for a new concourse, a core component of the comprehensive station upgradation project being executed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA).
Official Communication and Coordinated Work Schedule
According to an official communication released by the Central Railway authorities, this substantial construction activity is being meticulously coordinated with a planned non-interlocking block scheduled at Gondia station. This strategic coordination aims to minimize overall disruption across the network while allowing the essential upgrade work to proceed efficiently at Nagpur, a major railway junction.
Impact on Train Services and Passenger Travel
While railway officials have confirmed that no train services will be outright cancelled during this period, the reduced platform availability at Nagpur station will inevitably impact several services. The specific operational adjustments include:
- One train will be short-terminated at Amla station.
- Another train will be short-originated from Amla station.
- Six trains will be diverted to alternative routes to manage and alleviate congestion at the busy Nagpur station.
Furthermore, railway authorities have indicated that at least six other trains will face regulation, which is expected to result in delays. These delays are projected to range from a minor 10 minutes to more substantial delays exceeding two hours for certain services. Passengers are strongly advised to check their train schedules and plan their journeys accordingly to account for these potential disruptions.
Additional Infrastructure Work on Platform 3
In addition to the primary work on Platform 2, the project timeline will also see additional overhead equipment (OHE) and traffic blocks being undertaken on Platform 3 for a few select days during the 52-day period. However, authorities have provided clarification that these supplementary blocks on Platform 3 are not anticipated to cause any significant impact on overall train operations, with the primary focus and disruption centered on Platform 2.
The station upgradation project, spearheaded by the RLDA, represents a long-term investment in improving passenger amenities and operational capacity at Nagpur railway station. The new concourse is a key element of this modernization effort, aimed at enhancing passenger flow and overall station experience once completed.
