Noida International Airport Passenger Services Could Begin Within Two Months
Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has indicated that the commencement of passenger flight operations from the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport (NIA) might require up to two months. Following the airport's inauguration on Saturday, the minister projected a timeline for operational readiness.
Minister's Timeline for Operational Readiness
Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu stated, "NIA should get operational within 45 to 60 days from Saturday (inauguration day). That has been our experience at the new airports that have opened in recent times." This estimate aligns with historical precedents, such as the Navi Mumbai airport, which also took approximately two months to initiate passenger flights after its opening.
Pending Security Certification as Key Hurdle
A critical factor in this timeline is the pending Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) certification from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. The ASP serves as the airport's foundational security framework, meticulously outlining procedures for security checks from entry gates to boarding areas. It assigns specific responsibilities to all stakeholders involved, including the airport operator, airlines, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and ground handling agencies.
Furthermore, the ASP establishes comprehensive contingency plans, designed to enable authorities to respond swiftly and effectively to any potential security situations. Until this certification is secured, the airport cannot commence full-scale passenger operations, underscoring the importance of this regulatory step in ensuring passenger safety and compliance with national aviation security standards.
