MEA Inaugurates New Passport Seva Kendra in Ramnagar, Enhancing Citizen Services in West Champaran

In a significant development for citizen services in Bihar's West Champaran district, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially inaugurated a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in Ramnagar on Monday. This new facility, operating under the Regional Passport Office in Patna, is poised to greatly benefit residents of the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency and other remote regions, streamlining access to essential passport-related services.

Joint Inauguration by MP and MEA Secretary

The centre was jointly inaugurated by Valmiki Nagar Member of Parliament Sunil Kumar and MEA Secretary (CPV & OIA) Sripriya Ranganathan. During the ceremony, Sripriya Ranganathan addressed the gathering, highlighting that the Ramnagar facility marks the 454th POPSK established across the country and the 38th specifically in Bihar. It has been set up within the premises of a sub-post office, ensuring integration with existing postal infrastructure.

Comprehensive Services Offered

The newly launched POPSK will provide a range of crucial services, including:

These services are designed to be accessible and efficient, catering to the needs of local citizens. The facility will offer 45 daily appointment slots for passport services and an additional five slots specifically for PCC applications. All appointments can be conveniently booked online through the official MEA portal, facilitating a seamless user experience.

Expanding National and State Networks

Sripriya Ranganathan further elaborated on the broader context of passport services in India. She noted that the nationwide network now encompasses a total of 547 passport service centres. This includes 454 POPSKs and 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), demonstrating a robust expansion of infrastructure to serve citizens across the country.

Achieving Milestones in Bihar

Valmiki Nagar MP Sunil Kumar emphasized that the POPSK initiative represents a collaborative effort between the MEA and the Department of Posts, aimed at bringing passport services closer to citizens. With the launch of the Ramnagar centre, a key target has been achieved: establishing passport service centres in all 40 parliamentary constituencies of Bihar. The state now boasts a total of 40 such centres, significantly benefiting people residing in rural and remote areas by reducing travel burdens and improving accessibility.

This development underscores the government's commitment to enhancing public service delivery, particularly in underserved regions, and marks a pivotal step in empowering citizens with easier access to essential documentation services.
