Prime Minister Narendra Modi Chairs High-Level Security Meeting on Middle East Crisis Impact
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday presided over a special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to comprehensively assess the ramifications of the ongoing Middle East conflict. The high-level panel directed various ministries to implement urgent measures aimed at protecting citizens and securing essential supplies across critical sectors.
"PM directs that all efforts must be made to safeguard the citizens from the impact of this conflict," stated an official government release, highlighting the priority given to public welfare. The CCS meticulously reviewed contingency plans spanning energy, fertilisers, agriculture, logistics, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to mitigate potential disruptions.
Energy Security and Fuel Supply Measures
The meeting focused extensively on ensuring the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products, with particular emphasis on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Authorities reported that supply diversification for these fuels is actively underway to reduce dependency on volatile regions.
Notably, the government has maintained stable LPG prices for domestic consumers despite global fluctuations. Simultaneously, enforcement against diversion and hoarding is being intensified to curb black-marketing activities. "Fuel duty reduction and power sector measures were reviewed to ensure stability of essential supplies," the government confirmed.
Power Sector and Coal Stock Assessment
Prime Minister Modi also evaluated the nation's power situation, with officials detailing proactive steps such as augmenting coal supply to thermal plants and relaxing regulations for gas-based power generation. The release assured that "enough coal stock exists which shall serve power needs adequately in coming months," providing reassurance about energy security.
Fertiliser Availability for Agricultural Seasons
Regarding agricultural inputs, the government is maintaining domestic urea production while coordinating with international suppliers for diammonium phosphate (DAP) and NPKS fertilisers. This coordination aims to guarantee sufficient availability during both the Kharif and Rabi cropping seasons. States have been instructed to implement strict monitoring and enforcement against hoarding and diversion of these crucial farm inputs.
Price Stability and Commodity Monitoring
The CCS examined price trends of essential commodities, establishing control rooms for real-time coordination with states and Union Territories under the Essential Commodities Act. "Steps are being taken to ensure stable prices of essential commodities and strict action against hoarding and black-marketing," the release emphasized, underscoring the government's commitment to market stability.
Communication and Global Supply Chain Initiatives
Prime Minister Modi stressed the critical importance of transparent communication during the evolving crisis. "PM underlines the need for timely & smooth flow of authentic information to the public to prevent misinformation and rumour mongering," the statement added, highlighting the role of clear messaging in maintaining public confidence.
The meeting also discussed international efforts to secure safe passage for vessels through the strategic Strait of Hormuz and broader initiatives to stabilize global supply chains. Officials revealed that enhanced coordination across central, state, and district levels is being implemented, with the Prime Minister directing all departments to take "all possible measures to ameliorate the problems of citizens and sectors affected by the ongoing global situation."
