PM Modi Meets Norwegian Prime Minister
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Norwegian counterpart, Jonas Gahr Store, in New Delhi on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues aimed at strengthening the partnership between India and Norway.
Key Areas of Discussion
The talks focused on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, renewable energy, maritime issues, and climate change. Both leaders emphasized the importance of the India-Norway Ocean Dialogue and the Green Strategic Partnership, which were launched earlier to promote sustainable development.
Trade and Investment
India and Norway agreed to explore new avenues for economic collaboration. Norway's sovereign wealth fund, one of the world's largest, has significant investments in India, and both sides expressed interest in expanding trade volumes.
Renewable Energy and Climate Change
The discussions also covered joint efforts in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind and green hydrogen. Norway's expertise in these areas aligns with India's ambitious renewable energy targets. Climate change mitigation and adaptation were also high on the agenda.
Maritime and Ocean Cooperation
Given Norway's maritime heritage, the leaders explored deeper cooperation in ocean-based industries, sustainable fisheries, and marine research. The India-Norway Ocean Dialogue was highlighted as a platform for collaborative projects.
Global and Regional Issues
Prime Ministers Modi and Store exchanged views on global challenges, including the situation in Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific region, and multilateral reforms. They reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based international order and sustainable development goals.
Strengthening People-to-People Ties
The leaders also discussed enhancing cultural exchanges and educational partnerships. Norway has a vibrant Indian diaspora, and both sides acknowledged the role of the community in fostering bilateral relations.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to hold the next round of the India-Norway Joint Commission Meeting later this year to review progress and set future goals.
