Vijayawada Murder: Drunken Argument Leads to Fatal Assault

A shocking murder in Vijayawada's Ajit Singh Nagar police station limits has revealed how a drunken argument between friends escalated into a deadly assault, leaving a 36-year-old man dead and three persons arrested for murder and destruction of evidence.

Victim and Incident Details

The victim, Meesala Kumar alias Ganji Kumar alias Kriparao, a resident of Ramanagar Colony in Singh Nagar, was allegedly killed late on the night of May 12 near the KGF Apartments in New RR Peta. According to police, Kumar had frequent disputes with his wife Mounika due to his alcohol addiction. Following another argument at home on May 11, he reportedly left the house and went to stay with his friend Pandi Prasad.

Police said tensions flared again on Tuesday evening when Kumar allegedly made abusive remarks about Prasad's mother during a drunken conversation. Investigators believe Prasad was reportedly hurt over the insult and decided to attack him later that night.

Fatal Attack

Around 10:15 pm, Prasad allegedly picked a fight with Kumar near New RR Peta and struck him forcefully on the head with a heavy stone slab, killing him on the spot. After the murder, Prasad reportedly fled in his auto-rickshaw and later approached his associates — Mindala Yesu alias Chinna Kothem and Gaddala Prashanth Kumar — at YSR Jakkampudi Colony. Police said the trio then attempted to destroy evidence. The accused allegedly changed Prasad's bloodstained clothes, hid them in a bag and washed blood marks inside the auto-rickshaw to avoid suspicion.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Ajit Singh Nagar police registered a case and launched an investigation after receiving information about the murder. The body was shifted for a postmortem examination. The police based on call records and CCTV footage arrested the accused Pandi Prasad (24), a resident of KGF Apartments; Mindala Yesu alias Chinna Kothem (30); and Gaddala Prashanth Kumar (39) of Vidyadharapuram in this case. The accused will be presented before the court.
