Northern Railway Announces Major Service Disruptions for Maintenance Work

Rail services in the Sanahwal-Amritsar section of the Firozpur Division will face significant disruptions on March 30 due to essential maintenance activities. According to officials from Northern Railway, the replacement of signalling gear with an electronic interlocking system at Tangra station is the primary cause for these operational changes.

Impact on Train Services in Punjab

An official spokesperson detailed that a total of 10 trains will be cancelled, while four will be diverted, two will be short-terminated, and three will be regulated during the maintenance period. This comprehensive adjustment aims to facilitate the upgrade work without compromising safety.

The cancelled services for March 30 include:

  • Train 74692 (Qadian-Amritsar)
  • Train 74604 (Tarn Taran-Beas)

Additionally, train number 64551 (Ludhiana Junction-Chheharta) will be short-terminated at Butari, and train 64552 (Chheharta-Ludhiana Junction) will originate from Butari instead of its scheduled station.

Diverted and Regulated Trains

Several trains will be diverted via Tarn Taran to accommodate the maintenance work. These include:

  • Train 12411 (Chandigarh-Amritsar Express)
  • Train 15707 (Katihar Junction-Amritsar)
  • Train 14506 (Nangal Dam-Amritsar)
  • Train 12029 (New Delhi-Amritsar)

The diversion for train 12411 will result in a marginal increase in travel time due to the longer route. Furthermore, train numbers 14650 (Amritsar-Jaynagar), 15531 (Saharsa Junction-Amritsar), and 12497 (New Delhi-Amritsar) will be regulated en route for approximately 45 minutes, 60 minutes, and 20 minutes, respectively.

Disruptions in Jammu Division

Separately, rail operations in the Jammu Division will also be impacted due to maintenance work involving the removal of a relieving girder from Bridge No 163. An 8.45-hour traffic block has been scheduled on the Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan-Chak Rakhwala section of the Jammu Tawi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra line.

As a result, the following trains will be short-terminated at Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan station on March 31:

  1. Train 12919 (Dr Ambedkar Nagar-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra)
  2. Train 12475 (Hapa-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra)
  3. Train 11449 (Jabalpur-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra)

Train number 11450 (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Jabalpur) will originate from the same station on April 1. Additionally, train 14610 (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Yog Nagari Rishikesh) will be rescheduled by 150 minutes and regulated by 40 minutes en route, while train 12446 (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi) will be regulated by 30 minutes on April 1.

Advisory for Passengers

The spokesperson strongly advised passengers to check updated train schedules before travel and plan their journeys accordingly. These disruptions are part of routine maintenance efforts to enhance railway infrastructure and ensure long-term safety and efficiency.

Northern Railway officials emphasized that such temporary inconveniences are necessary for the ongoing modernization of rail networks in the region. Travelers are encouraged to stay informed through official channels to avoid any last-minute hassles.
