SAD leader Romana voluntarily withdrew Canada entry application

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parambans Singh Romana on Saturday stated that he voluntarily withdrew his application to enter Canada after being instructed to provide an undertaking that he would not engage in any political activities within the country. Romana was detained for questioning by Canadian immigration authorities upon his arrival in Vancouver.

Allegations of a Manufactured Complaint

Romana alleged that a fabricated complaint was submitted to Canadian immigration authorities from Manila to block his entry, despite having obtained the necessary court permission. He remarked, "The complainant was aware of all political cases registered against me, some of which I had even forgotten." Romana claimed that the complainant attempted to portray him as a threat to public safety.

Press Conference Details

Addressing a press conference, the Akali Dal leader explained that he informed immigration authorities of his intentions to visit his daughter, attend a marriage ceremony, and interact with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) ahead of the upcoming Punjab assembly elections. "When I was told that I would have to give an undertaking not to engage in any political activity, I chose to return to India," Romana said.

Evidence of Voluntary Departure

Romana presented documents to the media proving that he left Canada voluntarily. He alleged that this situation was orchestrated because the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was unsettled by the positive response the SAD was receiving from the NRI community in Canada. "The AAP government also attempted to disrupt the SAD team's visit by provoking the NRI community to ask us tough questions," he added.

AAP Propaganda Allegations

Romana further accused the "AAP propaganda machinery" of trying to defame him by spreading rumors that he disembarked in Vancouver while intoxicated.
