Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement on the final text of a peace deal, sparking optimism for a diplomatic breakthrough in the region.
Confirmation of Agreement
In a social media post, Shehbaz stated, 'Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal.' He added, 'Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalise the next steps.'
The prime minister further emphasised that 'peace has never been this close as it is now.' He tagged US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary Marco Rubio, as well as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in the post, which followed a series of reports about a potential agreement.
No Immediate Reactions
There was no immediate response from the White House or Iranian authorities regarding Shehbaz's assertion. However, earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had hinted at progress in the negotiations, stating that the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer.'
Mediation Efforts
Pakistan has been actively mediating between the US and Iran, working to bridge differences and facilitate a peaceful resolution. Shehbaz's announcement signals a significant step forward, though details of the deal remain undisclosed. The international community is closely watching the developments, hoping for a reduction in tensions in the Middle East.
