Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has reviewed preparations for the upcoming visit of Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan, scheduled for July 10. The Vice President will participate in an international seminar at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS). Kashyap chaired a meeting on Wednesday to ensure all arrangements align with established protocols and a time-bound action plan.
Key Arrangements Reviewed
During the meeting, Kashyap emphasized the need for a smooth, safe, and dignified program. He reviewed the helicopter landing site, directing officials to ensure safe landing and take-off, helipad security, barricading, cleanliness, an efficient communication system, and coordination among all agencies.
The Health Department was instructed to ensure adequate medical arrangements, including deployment of medical teams, ambulances, doctors, and paramedical staff, availability of life-saving medicines and equipment, and prompt emergency response. The Fire Department was directed to deploy adequate firefighting vehicles, equipment, and trained personnel at the helipad, venue, and other key locations.
Security and Logistics
Kashyap also reviewed security and law and order arrangements, traffic and parking management, the route plan, VVIP movement, electricity and drinking water supply, sanitation, road inspection and repairs by the Public Works Department, communication systems, disaster management, power backup, and other protocol-related measures.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, all departments must work in coordination to ensure the visit proceeds without any issues. The administration has prepared a detailed action plan to address every aspect of the visit, from arrival to departure.
Background of the Visit
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan is visiting Shimla for the first time in his capacity. The international seminar at IIAS is expected to draw participants from various countries. The visit underscores the importance of Shimla as a venue for high-level academic and diplomatic events.
Local authorities have been instructed to minimize inconvenience to the public while maintaining high security. Traffic diversions and parking restrictions will be implemented as per the route plan. The administration has urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel.
