Tharoor Warns: China Threat Real for India, Global Powers Lose Moral Compass
Tharoor: China Threat Real, Global Powers Lose Moral Compass

Shashi Tharoor Issues Stark Warning on China Threat and Global Disorder

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has delivered a sharp warning against strategic complacency. He states India continues to face a direct military threat from China. This threat persists regardless of India's participation in multilateral platforms like BRICS and the Quad.

Groupings Cannot Replace Strong National Defence

According to Tharoor, such international groupings are valuable. However, they cannot replace the fundamental need for strong national defence and credible deterrence. The MP emphasized that India must maintain robust military capabilities to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Great Powers Accused of Losing Moral Compass

Tharoor also leveled a serious accusation against the world's great powers. He claimed they have lost their moral responsibility. This erosion of ethics, he argued, is weakening the legitimacy and effectiveness of global institutions. The United Nations was cited as a prime example of an organization suffering from this decline.

"While India faithfully follows the spirit and principles of the UN Charter," Tharoor noted, "it remains unfairly excluded from permanent membership in the Security Council." This point underscores a long-standing grievance in Indian foreign policy.

Frustration with a Flawed Global System

His comments highlight a growing sense of frustration. The current global system often allows power politics to trump established principles and rules. In this increasingly unstable world order, Tharoor stressed that India has no choice but to proactively safeguard its own national interests.

The MP's analysis paints a picture of a challenging international environment. India must navigate relations with a powerful neighbor like China while also contending with a global governance structure that many see as outdated and unfair.
