Trump Hails PM Modi as 'Friend' in Warm Phone Conversation
US President Donald Trump on Thursday revealed he had a "very good" conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the Indian leader as a personal friend and commending his exceptional leadership. "I had a very good talk with him and he's a friend of mine from India and he's doing great. We had a very good conversation," Trump stated in response to a question posed by ANI, the Asian News International agency.
Leaders Review Bilateral Ties and West Asia Situation
The US president's remarks followed a significant phone call between the two leaders on Tuesday, during which they conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and examined the volatile situation in West Asia. Prime Minister Modi later shared details of their discussion on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas," PM Modi posted.
The leaders specifically addressed security concerns in West Asia, with both emphasizing the critical importance of maintaining open and secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime chokepoint for global oil shipments.
Third Conversation This Year Concludes with Warm Exchange
According to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, the call concluded with President Trump expressing warm sentiments toward the Indian prime minister, telling him, "I just want you to know we all love you." This personal touch highlighted the strong rapport between the two leaders.
This marked the third telephone conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in 2024, and notably the first following recent peace talks between Iran and the United States. Their previous discussions this year occurred on February 2, when they announced progress on a trade deal, and on March 24, when they similarly discussed developments in West Asia.
The consistent communication between the US and Indian leaders underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations, with regular high-level dialogues addressing both bilateral cooperation and pressing global security issues. The frequency of these exchanges demonstrates a mutual commitment to maintaining open channels of communication at the highest levels of government.
