Trump Announces Impending End to Iran Conflict, Issues Dire Warning to Tehran
In a significant development, US President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that the ongoing war with Iran is set to conclude shortly, though he refrained from providing a precise timeline. During a news conference held in Florida, Trump characterized the military engagement as a "short-term excursion" initiated to eliminate certain threats.
Stark Ultimatum to Iran
President Trump delivered a blunt warning to Tehran, cautioning against any provocative actions. He emphasized that if Iran attempts "anything cute," the United States will respond decisively, potentially leading to the nation's demise. "It's going to be ended soon, and if it starts up again they'll be hit even harder," Trump asserted, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Earlier, in an interview with CBS, the US leader elaborated on his stance, describing the war as "very complete" due to extensive damage inflicted on Iranian military assets. He claimed that Iran has exhausted its offensive capabilities, with no functional navy, communications, or air force remaining. "They've shot everything they have to shoot, and they better not try anything cute or it's going to be the end of that country," Trump stated, adding that any further missteps could erase Iran from the global map.
Claims of Victory and Continued Determination
While Trump proclaimed that the United States and its allies have already achieved victory in many respects, he insisted that this is insufficient. He vowed to pursue "ultimate victory" with renewed determination to permanently neutralize the long-standing threat posed by Iran. "We've already won in many ways, but we haven't won enough. We go forward more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory that will end this long-running danger once and for all," he declared.
The president further justified the preemptive strikes by the US and Israel, arguing that Iran was on the verge of launching a massive attack. According to Trump, Tehran had amassed a substantial arsenal of missiles and was prepared to target not only the United States but also Israel and the broader Middle East within a week. He suggested that if Iran possessed nuclear weapons, they would have been deployed against Israel, making the intervention necessary to avert a catastrophic scenario.
Contrasting Assessments and Ongoing Tensions
Trump's optimistic assessment of the war's conclusion contrasts with recent statements from the Pentagon, which indicated that the conflict has "only just begun to fight." This discrepancy highlights the evolving and complex nature of the situation. Despite Trump's claims of nearing an end, he had previously demanded Iran's "unconditional surrender" as the sole acceptable outcome, indicating potential hurdles in the peace process.
The US leader praised the military's efforts, noting that approximately 80% of Iranian missile launchers have been destroyed, leaving Tehran with minimal offensive capacity. "What our military has done is amazing," he remarked, reflecting on the strikes that commenced on February 28. However, the lack of a clear timeline for resolution leaves room for uncertainty as tensions persist in the region.
