Trump Hails Israel as 'Great Ally' During Regional Escalation
Former United States President Donald Trump publicly commended Israel on Sunday, describing the nation as a "great ally" of America while highlighting its demonstrated strength and resolve amidst escalating tensions across the Middle East.
Social Media Praise Amid Conflict
In a detailed post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote emphatically: "Whether people like Israel or not, they have proven to be a GREAT Ally of the United States of America. They are Courageous, Bold, Loyal, and Smart and, unlike others that have shown their true colors in a moment of conflict and stress, Israel fights hard, and knows how to WIN! President DJT."
These remarks arrive during a period of heightened military conflict involving Israel, Iran, and various allied militant groups throughout the region, with diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation remaining uncertain and fragile.
Diplomatic Stalemate and Human Toll
Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf indicated that negotiations with the United States have achieved some limited progress but remain far from completion. "We are still far from the final discussion," he stated, adding that "there are many gaps and some fundamental points remain."
The ongoing conflict has already exacted a severe human cost. Iranian authorities report that 3,468 individuals have been killed in the war involving the United States and Israel. On the Israeli side, the military confirmed the death of Command Sergeant Barak Kalfon, aged 48, in southern Lebanon, where a recently implemented ceasefire has proven tenuous and unstable.
UN Peacekeepers Targeted
Tensions have further spread to United Nations peacekeeping forces operating in the area. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned an attack on peacekeepers in southern Lebanon that resulted in the death of a French soldier and left three others wounded.
France has attributed responsibility for the assault to Hezbollah, although the militant group has denied any involvement and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Ceasefire Violations and Military Actions
Despite a nominal 10-day truce agreement, violent clashes have persisted without interruption. Israel announced it conducted targeted strikes against what it described as a "terrorist cell" in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem issued a stern warning that any ceasefire must be genuinely mutual and reciprocal. "Because we do not trust this enemy, the resistance fighters will remain in the field with their hands on the trigger," he declared, emphasizing that "There is no ceasefire from the side of the resistance only, it must be from both sides."
Strait of Hormuz Tensions
The volatile situation has been further complicated by rising military tensions in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary Guards navy issued a stark warning that any vessel attempting to approach this crucial global shipping route could become a military target, raising significant international concerns about potential disruptions to worldwide oil supplies and energy markets.
Former President Trump directly addressed this maritime security issue, cautioning Tehran against attempting to use the strategic waterway as political or economic leverage. "We're talking to them... and they can't blackmail us," he asserted during his remarks.
