UK BJP Diaspora Group Demands Diplomatic Intervention Following Harrow Holi Violence
The Overseas Friends of BJP UK has formally written a letter to the High Commissioner of India in London, expressing grave concern over a violent disturbance that marred a Holi and Holika Dahan celebration in Harrow on March 3, 2026. The group is calling for immediate diplomatic engagement to ensure a comprehensive investigation and enhanced protection for the cultural and religious events of the Indian community in the United Kingdom.
Details of the Harrow Holika Dahan Incident
The Holika event, organized by the International Siddhashram Shakti Centre at the Harrow Civic Centre car park, turned chaotic after a group of youths allegedly disrupted the festivities. The gathering, which attracted nearly 1,000 attendees including local mayors and councillors, commenced peacefully around 7 pm with prayers and the ceremonial lighting of the Holika fire.
According to Shri Rajrajeshwar Guruji, the centre's founder, the situation escalated around 8:30 pm when three teenagers arrived and forcefully pulled out the sound system wires, causing damage to the speakers. Minutes later, they reportedly returned with a larger group of 15 to 20 individuals, some wearing balaclavas and one allegedly carrying a sword. The group is accused of throwing beer cans and glass bottles into the sacred fire and engaging in physical clashes with event security before fleeing upon hearing police sirens. The violence resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old boy.

In its letter, the Overseas Friends of BJP UK has made several specific requests to the Indian High Commission:

While some religious institutions have received security support, the letter notes that members of the Hindu community feel comparable protection and funding for Hindu temples and organizations facing hate incidents remain insufficient. This concern has been amplified following earlier tensions affecting Hindu communities in regions like the Midlands and Leicester.
