US Secretary of State Condemns Delhi Terror Attack
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has officially characterized the devastating car bomb explosion near Delhi's historic Red Fort as a "heinous terror incident" with potential wider implications. The high-intensity blast that occurred on Monday claimed at least 13 lives and has drawn international condemnation.
India's Measured Response Earns International Praise
During remarks to the press in Canada's Hamilton on Wednesday, Rubio commended Indian authorities for their "very measured" and "very professional" approach to investigating the deadly incident. "Clearly, it was a terrorist attack. It was a car loaded with highly explosive materials that detonated and killed a lot of people," Rubio stated unequivocally.
The US diplomat acknowledged the potential for escalating tensions in the region, particularly between India and Pakistan, given their recent history of conflict. "We're aware of the potential that it has, and so we spoke about that a little bit today - the potential that it has to become something broader," Rubio noted, according to PTI reports.
Diplomatic Engagements and Investigation Progress
Rubio met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the margins of the G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Niagara, where condolences were extended for the loss of lives in the Delhi blast. While the United States offered assistance in the investigation, Rubio expressed confidence in India's capabilities, stating "They don't need our help. They're doing a good job."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a two-day visit to Bhutan when the attack occurred, delivered a strong message assuring justice for the victims. "Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators behind this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice," PM Modi declared, emphasizing that he had monitored the situation throughout the night following the explosion.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party reinforced the government's stance by sharing a compilation of India's previous responses to terror attacks, including cross-border surgical strikes and Operation Sindoor launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
