Tension gripped the Krishnagiri district near Pochampally on Wednesday after a Tamilaga Vettrik Kazhagam (TVK) flag was discovered hoisted on a flagpole belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Satinayakkanpatty village. The incident occurred on the edge of private agricultural land owned by former panchayat president and DMK member Venila Murugesan.
Background of the Incident
The flagpole was originally installed by Murugesan, who stated that the DMK flag had been removed earlier in view of the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. According to local villagers, an unidentified person hoisted the TVK flag on the pole in the early hours of Wednesday. When DMK members noticed the change in the morning, a large gathering of over 100 party workers assembled at the spot.
Police Intervention
Parur police rushed to the scene and initiated talks with the agitated DMK members. The party workers demanded that the flag should not be removed until the individual responsible for hoisting it was identified and arrested. With the situation turning tense, the authorities deployed more than 20 police personnel in the village to maintain order.
The incident has heightened political tensions in the region, with both parties closely monitoring the developments. Investigations are underway to identify the person who hoisted the TVK flag, as the police continue to engage with local leaders to defuse the situation.
