Vice-President Calls for 'Nation First' Ethos and Action Against Substance Abuse at University Convocation
Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan delivered a powerful address at the third convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCU) in Motihari, East Champaran district, on Saturday, urging students to adopt the guiding principle of "Nation First." Underlining the profound significance of the Champaran Satyagrah, Radhakrishnan noted that Champaran holds a special place in India's history. It was here that Mahatma Gandhi transformed from a barrister into a mass leader deeply rooted in India's villages, with the Champaran Satyagraha awakening the nation's conscience through truth, courage, and justice. He also celebrated Bihar's intellectual and spiritual heritage, pointing out that this sacred land witnessed Gautama Buddha attaining enlightenment, the ancient Nalanda University emerging as a global center of learning, and great thinkers like Chanakya shaping philosophical thought.
Commitment to Gandhian Ideals and Educational Progress
Radhakrishnan stated that naming the university after Mahatma Gandhi reflects a steadfast commitment to Gandhiji's ideals of social justice, rural upliftment, and ethical leadership. He recalled the contribution of Maharani Janaki Kunwar, whose philanthropy and donation of land played a pivotal role in establishing educational institutions in the region, underscoring the community's dedication to learning.
Advancements in Education and Women-Led Development
The Vice-President expressed satisfaction that MGCU has implemented the National Education Policy 2020 and introduced new integrated courses, aligning with modern educational standards. He appreciated the establishment of the Indian Knowledge Systems Centre and the university's emphasis on sports and fitness under the Fit India Movement. Notably, Radhakrishnan highlighted that the university toppers in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are women students, describing this achievement as a clear reflection of the progress of women-led development in the country.
