Ahmedabad Police Deploys 8,000 Personnel for Peaceful Polling

Ahmedabad: Extensive security arrangements are in place to ensure peaceful polling on Sunday, commissioner of police G S Malik said. He asserted there were no law-and-order concerns in the city.

Security Review and Booth Visit

Malik reviewed the security arrangements and also visited a polling station at the Municipal Gujarati School in Shahibaug to assess the preparedness at booths.

Deployment and Vigilance

The commissioner said that police presence will be maintained outside polling stations to prevent any untoward incident during voting. Around 8,000 personnel from the police and Home Guard will be deployed across the city. Seven companies of the State Reserve Police and paramilitary forces will also be stationed to strengthen security and maintain vigilance. Special attention is being given to sensitive locations, Malik said.

Sensitive and Hyper-Sensitive Booths

In Ahmedabad city, 419 polling booths have been identified as sensitive, while two have been marked hyper-sensitive, where tighter surveillance and enhanced deployment will be ensured. Voting is set to take place at 4,172 booths spread across 895 buildings in the city.

Preventive Measures

Police have also taken preventive action against history-sheeters and accused with criminal backgrounds. As part of the pre-poll crackdown, preventive detention and other measures have been taken, while liquor worth more than Rs 1.5 crore has been seized.
