The Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has officially announced that shops, educational institutions, and public transport services will continue to operate normally on the day of the election results count. This clarification comes as residents of Guwahati and Dibrugarh eagerly await one of the most pivotal moments in the electoral calendar.
No General Shutdown Amidst Political Excitement
Despite the heightened political atmosphere surrounding the Assam election results 2026, the district administration has assured the public that there will be no general shutdown across the city. Minimal disruption to daily life has been guaranteed. Kamrup (Metropolitan) district commissioner Swapneel Paul stated, "There will be no closure of schools or suspension of transport apart from the mandatory restrictions around the counting centre."
Security Measures at Counting Centres
Strict security and regulatory measures will be enforced in and around the counting centre. These restrictions are part of the standard protocol designed to ensure a smooth, transparent, and secure counting process. The district commissioner added, "Any person who contravenes this order shall be liable to penal action under Section 223 of the BNSS Act, and under any applicable provisions of the law." However, officials emphasized that these restrictions will not hamper citizens' movement throughout the city.
Political Parties Advised Against Victory Rallies
All political parties have been advised not to hold any victory rallies after the declaration of election results. While celebrations are expected, they must be conducted in a regulated manner. The media relations convenor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dewan Dhrubajyoti Maral, said, "We will have a congregation at our headquarters for tomorrow. If our party wins, there will be a celebration, but it will be held with utmost humility and there will not be any victory processions carried in the city. This direction has been given to every district unit as well."
Dibrugarh Also Sees Normal Operations
In Dibrugarh, the district administration has imposed no restrictions on the movement of public vehicles. A district official confirmed that buses and other forms of public transport will operate normally. "Daily life will not be affected across the city. Public transport and shops will function normally. We only urge residents to stay away from the counting centre area," the official said.
