Exit polls released for the Bihar 2025 assembly elections have created a political storm, with most predicting a decisive victory for the National Democratic Alliance. The ruling coalition appears poised to return to power with a comfortable majority in the 243-seat legislative assembly.
NDA Set for Commanding Majority
According to multiple exit poll results published after voting concluded on Tuesday, the NDA alliance comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal-United is projected to secure between 133 and 167 seats. This would comfortably cross the majority mark of 122 seats needed to form the government.
The massive prediction comes after two phases of voting that witnessed exceptionally high voter participation. The Election Commission of India reported bumper turnout numbers in both phases held on November 6 and November 11.
Opposition Alliance Trails Behind
The Mahagathbandhan, or Grand Alliance, which includes the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, is projected to win significantly fewer seats. Exit polls indicate they may secure anywhere between 73 and 102 seats, putting them clearly in the opposition benches.
In a disappointing showing for political newcomer Prashant Kishor, his Jan Suraaj Party is predicted to win only 0 to 5 seats in its electoral debut. This suggests the much-hyped entry of the political strategist into electoral politics may not yield immediate dividends.
Important Caveats and Final Count
While the exit polls paint a clear picture, election analysts caution that exit polls have historically been inaccurate in several instances. The final verdict will only be known when votes are counted on November 14.
The high voter turnout in both phases indicates strong public participation in the democratic process. Political observers suggest that the final results could still hold surprises, despite the overwhelming exit poll predictions favoring the ruling alliance.
All eyes are now set on the counting day, which will determine whether the exit poll projections materialize into actual political reality or if Bihar voters have something different in store for the political establishment.
