Coimbatore District Implements Postal Voting for Vulnerable Voters
In a significant initiative to enhance electoral accessibility, the Election Commission has organized postal voting for thousands of senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Coimbatore district. A total of 7,583 senior citizens and 1,692 individuals with disabilities across 10 assembly constituencies will exercise their franchise from the comfort of their homes on April 12, 13, and 14.
Election Commission's Comprehensive Arrangements
The Election Commission has meticulously planned this postal voting process for voters who submitted Form 12D applications by April 3. To facilitate this, the commission has deployed 168 dedicated teams, each led by a poll officer and accompanied by a micro-observer. These teams will personally visit the residences of eligible voters to collect their ballots, ensuring a secure and convenient voting experience.
Distribution of Teams Across Constituencies
The 168 teams have been strategically allocated across the 10 assembly constituencies to cover all eligible voters efficiently. The distribution is as follows:
- Mettupalayam: 22 teams
- Sulur: 15 teams
- Kavundampalayam: 21 teams
- Coimbatore North: 15 teams
- Thondamuthur: 20 teams
- Coimbatore South: 12 teams
- Singanallur: 15 teams
- Kinathukadavu: 18 teams
- Pollachi: 15 teams
- Valparai: 15 teams
Important Instructions for Voters
Eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities are strongly advised to remain at home on the designated dates—April 12, 13, and 14—to ensure the smooth collection of their postal ballots. This measure is crucial to avoid any delays or missed opportunities for voting, as the teams will be visiting residences according to a pre-planned schedule.
This initiative underscores the Election Commission's commitment to inclusive democracy, making it easier for vulnerable groups to participate in the electoral process without the physical challenges of visiting polling stations. By bringing the ballot box to their doorsteps, the commission aims to boost voter turnout among these demographics, reinforcing the principle that every vote counts in shaping the nation's future.
