Coimbatore Election Squad Seizes Gold, Diamond, Silver Worth Rs 10.18 Crore
In a significant pre-election enforcement action, an election flying squad team in Coimbatore seized a massive consignment of gold, diamond, and silver ornaments valued at Rs 10.18 crore on Wednesday. The operation took place in the Singanallur assembly constituency, highlighting intensified vigilance during the electoral period.
Vehicle Check Leads to Major Discovery
According to official sources, the seizure occurred during a routine vehicle check near the Codissia area. The squad stopped a tempo traveller for inspection and discovered it was transporting gold, diamond, and silver ornaments without valid documentation. The team promptly confiscated the consignment and handed it over to the treasury at the Coimbatore South taluk office for safekeeping.
Details of the Seized Consignment
The tempo traveller belonged to Sequel Logistics and was being driven by Athiveerapandian at the time of the interception. Sources revealed that the logistics firm is typically involved in delivering gold and other precious metals to jewellers across the region. The vehicle was carrying a substantial load, including 6 kilograms of gold and diamond, along with 8.47 kilograms of silver. The total value of the seized items is precisely estimated at Rs 10,18,21,008.
Document Verification and Future Actions
Officials stated that the seized ornaments will be returned to Sequel Logistics only after thorough verification of the required documents. However, if the firm fails to produce relevant and valid documentation, the authorities will retain the confiscated items. This strict protocol underscores the enforcement of election regulations to prevent any potential misuse of resources during the electoral process.
The incident serves as a reminder of the heightened security measures and scrutiny in place as election activities intensify across the constituency.
