In a dramatic turn of events, Ratna Debnath, the mother of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim, has launched a scathing attack on West Bengal's former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, labeling her a 'criminal' and demanding her arrest. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Debnath asserted that the truth behind the heinous crime would only emerge if Banerjee was 'caught and jailed'.
Accusations Against Mamata Banerjee
Debnath, who was recently elected as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from the Panihati assembly constituency in West Bengal, did not mince words when she addressed the media. 'There are many criminals, the head of them is Mamata Banerjee. If she is caught and jailed, then the names of all the criminals will come out,' she stated emphatically.
Allegations of Involvement
The grieving mother alleged that college authorities, including Banerjee, and former health secretary Narayanswaroop Nigam were complicit in her daughter's murder. 'The people who had dinner with my daughter that night have not been investigated yet. Only the principal is in jail. College authorities, including Mamata Banerjee, are responsible for this incident. Also, our then Health Secretary Narayanswaroop Nigam is also involved in the murder of my daughter,' she claimed.
Police Suspensions and Mishandling Allegations
In a related development, the West Bengal government on Friday suspended three police officers for alleged lapses in the investigation into the RG Kar case. Those suspended include former Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Goyal and former deputy commissioners Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that these officers mishandled the case, including an attempt to offer a bribe to the victim's parents.
Debnath's accusations have added a new layer of controversy to an already sensitive case, drawing sharp reactions from political circles. The victim's mother continues to demand a thorough investigation and justice for her daughter.
