Delhi Metro Announces Special Early Morning Services for MCD Bye-Elections
In a significant move to facilitate smooth electoral proceedings, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a major change in its operational schedule. The metro services will commence exceptionally early on the days of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bye-elections. This temporary adjustment is designed to assist polling personnel and security staff in reaching their assigned destinations on time.
Revised Metro Schedule: Key Dates and Timings
The changes are specific to two crucial dates: November 30, 2025, which is the polling day, and December 3, 2025, the day designated for the counting of votes. On both these days, the entire Delhi Metro network will spring to life at 4:00 AM from all terminal stations. This is a full hour earlier than the usual start time of 5:00 AM.
For commuters planning to travel on November 30, a Sunday, the early morning frequency will be one train every 30 minutes until 6:00 AM. After this initial period, the metro will seamlessly transition into its regular Sunday timetable. In another departure from the norm, the last train on polling day will depart at 11:30 PM, extending service by 30 minutes beyond the usual closing time.
On the counting day, December 3, a Wednesday, the same 4:00 AM start will be implemented across all lines. Trains will run at 30-minute intervals until 6:00 AM, after which the system will revert to the standard and more frequent weekday schedule to accommodate the morning rush.
Network-Wide Implementation and Commuter Guidance
This early rollout is not limited to a specific line but will be applied uniformly across all metro corridors and terminals. This includes the heavily traversed Blue Line, ensuring that staff and the general public across Delhi, Noida, and other connected areas can benefit from the early service.
The primary objective of this schedule change is to ensure the punctual movement of election-duty staff, including polling officers and security personnel, who are required to be at their posts well in advance. However, the service will be available for all regular commuters as well.
To avoid any confusion and plan their journeys effectively, passengers are strongly advised to check the updated first and last train timings using the official DMRC website or its mobile application. The 'Trip Planner' feature on these platforms will provide accurate information on travel duration and interchange connections based on the revised schedule.
Outside of these two election dates, the Delhi Metro will continue to operate according to its regular daily timetable, with services running from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The DMRC's proactive measure underscores the metro's role as the dependable lifeline of the national capital, adapting its services to support crucial civic events.
