Election Commission to Facilitate Voting in Kolkata High-Rise Complexes
The Election Commission of India has announced a significant initiative to enhance voter accessibility by establishing polling booths within six prominent high-rise residential complexes. This strategic move covers 11 constituencies under the jurisdiction of both Kolkata North and Kolkata South electoral districts, aiming to streamline the voting process for residents.
Specific Locations and Arrangements
Out of the six selected high-rises, two are situated within the Rashbehari Assembly constituency. Special arrangements have been meticulously planned for South City Mall and Asha Corporate Housing, as confirmed by Randhir Kumar, the District Election Officer for Kolkata South. These locations will host dedicated polling stations to accommodate voters efficiently.
In the Kolkata North parliamentary constituency, four high-rise buildings will feature polling booths. Active Acres and Silver Spring, both falling under the Entally Assembly constituency, are included in this list. Additionally, Arjun Apartment in Manicktala and Lake District in Beleghata will also serve as polling stations, ensuring broader coverage across the region.
Broader District-Wide Initiative
This effort is part of a larger-scale project by the Election Commission, which involves setting up polling stations in a total of 57 residential high-rises across multiple districts. The initiative extends beyond Kolkata to include Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas, reflecting a comprehensive approach to electoral accessibility.
Earlier, a preliminary list of 78 residential high-rises was submitted to the EC, each housing between 300 and 500 voters. The current selection of six buildings in Kolkata represents a focused implementation phase, prioritizing areas with significant voter density to optimize resource allocation and voter convenience.
