The electoral landscape of Guwahati is undergoing a significant update, with the voter count in Kamrup (Metro) district witnessing a notable increase. The integrated draft electoral roll, published this Saturday, reveals the total number of voters has risen from 10.58 lakh in January 2025 to 10.75 lakh.
Breakdown of Voters and Key Revisions
The draft roll comprises a detailed demographic split: 521,388 male voters, 554,151 female voters, and 37 third-gender voters. The revision process, involving rigorous door-to-door verification by booth-level officers, led to the identification of 24,163 deceased voters and 21,154 voters who have shifted from their original enrolled address.
Furthermore, the list currently contains 3,822 individuals marked as 'D' or doubtful voters, who are presently ineligible to cast their vote, though their names remain. An additional 912 service voters have also been identified. It is important to note that the names of deceased, shifted, and 'D' voters are part of the total 10.75 lakh figure until the claims and objections process is complete.
Constituency-Wise Growth and Public Engagement Window
The overall increase in the voter percentage for the district stands at 1.63%. Leading this growth is the Jalukbari assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which recorded the highest rise of 2.53%. Other constituencies showed varied growth: Dispur (2.01%), Dimoria (SC) (1.53%), Guwahati Central (1.15%), and New Guwahati (0.79%).
In terms of absolute numbers, Dispur leads with 249,746 voters, followed by Dimoria (SC) with 221,099, Jalukbari with 210,624, Guwahati Central with 198,091, and New Guwahati with 196,016.
Kamrup (Metro) District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan announced a crucial period for public participation. From December 27, 2025, to January 22, 2026, citizens can file claims and objections regarding the draft roll. Special camps will be organized in the district on January 3, 4, 10, and 11 to facilitate this process.
Roadmap to the Final 2026 Electoral Roll
The district administration has set a clear timeline for finalizing the list. All claims and objections will be disposed of by February 2, 2026. The final electoral roll, which will form the basis for the upcoming 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly election, is scheduled for publication on February 10, 2026.
Among the new additions are 14,755 young voters, most of whom are currently 17-plus and will become eligible to vote next year. The administration has also created 105 new polling stations during a rationalization exercise, bringing the district's total to 1,218 stations.
The administration has urged all voters to verify their details at their respective polling stations. Eligible individuals whose names are missing, or those needing corrections or transfers, can submit the prescribed Forms 6, 6(A), 7, or 8 within the stipulated period. Young citizens who will turn 18 on key qualifying dates in 2026—April 1, July 1, or October 1—are also encouraged to submit advance claims for inclusion using Form-6.
