Voters in Jaipur who have been classified as absentee, relocated, or duplicate and subsequently removed from the electoral rolls now have a crucial opportunity to reclaim their voting rights. The state election department has announced that these individuals can submit their objections by January 15 to the relevant sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) office.
Massive Re-inclusion Drive Underway
This initiative is part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. According to official figures, a significant 33 lakh voters across the state fall into these categories and are eligible to apply for re-inclusion. The process requires submitting Form 6 along with the necessary identification proofs to the appropriate authorities.
Document Verification for 11 Lakh Voters
In a separate but related procedure, nearly 11 lakh voters—whose names or the names of their relatives could not be traced in the 2002 voter list—must undergo document verification. The election department has specified a list of 13 acceptable documents for this purpose.
These voters have two submission channels. They can either provide the documents to their designated Booth Level Officer (BLO), who will then forward them to the Election Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Election Registration Officer (AERO). Alternatively, applicants can submit the documents directly to the ERO or AERO office.
List of Acceptable Identification Documents
The 13 documents approved for verification include a wide range of government and official papers to ease the process for citizens. Key acceptable documents are:
- Any identity card or pension payment order issued to a regular employee or pensioner of Central/State Government or a Public Sector Undertaking.
- Any identity card, certificate, or document issued by government bodies, local authorities, banks, post offices, LIC, or PSUs issued before July 1, 1987.
- Birth certificate issued by a competent authority.
- Passport.
- Matriculation or equivalent educational certificate from a recognized board or university.
- Permanent residence certificate issued by a competent state authority.
This comprehensive list aims to accommodate voters who may not possess newer forms of identification, ensuring no legitimate voter is disenfranchised due to documentation issues.
Act Before the Deadline to Secure Your Vote
The January 15 deadline is critical. Voters who miss this window risk being excluded from the final electoral roll, which would bar them from participating in upcoming elections. The election department's move highlights a significant effort to clean the voter list while also providing ample opportunity for rightful inclusion.
This revision process is a vital exercise in democratic upkeep, aiming to ensure the electoral roll is accurate, updated, and inclusive. All affected voters in Jaipur and across the state are urged to take immediate action and complete the necessary formalities to protect their fundamental right to vote.
