Kanpur District Magistrate and Election Officer Jitendra Pratap Singh has issued an urgent appeal to political parties and voters to ensure timely submission of enumeration forms as the December 4 deadline approaches rapidly.
Critical Deadline for Voter Registration
With only seven days remaining until the December 4 cutoff, Singh revealed that a significant number of voters in Kanpur district have yet to return their enumeration forms to their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The forms are part of the special intensive revision campaign aimed at updating voter lists.
The district magistrate specifically urged voters not to wait until the final day to avoid unnecessary crowding and chaos at collection centers. He emphasized that only those voters whose counting forms are submitted by the December 4 deadline will be included in the draft voter list.
Administration Takes Strict Action
During a review of the first phase of the campaign, Singh expressed serious concern about work dereliction and summoned five assistant returning officers whose areas showed below-average progress.
The officials called for explanation included:
- ARO Veerpal Singh (District Backward Class Welfare Officer)
- Jyoti Yadav (Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax)
- Yasmin Rahman (BEO, Kidwai Nagar)
- Bharat Kumar Verma (BEO, Bidhanu)
All these officers had failed to meet targets in their respective areas, according to the administration's assessment.
Online Submission Option Available
Singh highlighted that voters have the convenient option to submit their enumeration forms online, providing an alternative to physical submission. This digital approach aims to streamline the process and reduce last-minute bottlenecks.
The district magistrate also called upon political party representatives to actively cooperate with the administration by mobilizing their booth-level agents to create voter awareness and ensure maximum form submission.
Laxity was particularly noted in the case of District Food Marketing Officer and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Ajay Vikram Singh, whose absence from and early departure during an online review meeting was recorded as serious negligence.
The administration's strong stance underscores the importance of completing the voter list revision process efficiently and inclusively, ensuring every eligible voter gets their chance to participate in the democratic process.
