The ruling Mahayuti alliance has secured a commanding victory in the recently concluded local body elections across Maharashtra. The coalition, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), won a dominant majority of the posts for municipal council presidents.
Decisive Victory for Ruling Coalition
Elections were held for 288 posts of presidents across 246 municipal councils and 42 town panchayats. The polling occurred in two phases on 2 December and 20 December 2025. The State Election Commission (SEC) released the final results on the night of Sunday, 21 December, confirming a clear sweep for the Mahayuti.
The alliance collectively won 207 of the 288 vacant posts, leaving the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) far behind with just 44 wins. This result underscores the ruling coalition's strong grassroots presence ahead of crucial municipal corporation elections.

Leaders Hail Victory as a "Trailer"
Celebrations erupted at the BJP headquarters in Mumbai's Nariman Point as trends solidified into a definitive win. Key leaders from the Mahayuti alliance were quick to react and thank the electorate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra and the party workers. He stated that the results reflect public trust in the alliance's vision for people-centric development and reaffirmed their commitment to working for every citizen's aspirations.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the outcome a reaffirmation of faith in the leadership of PM Modi. In a significant remark, he declared, "This victory is just a trailer of what we will see in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections." He also credited BJP national leaders J.P. Nadda and Nitin Nabin for their guidance.
Other prominent figures, including former CM Eknath Shinde, NCP chief Ajit Pawar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, also hailed the electoral performance. The resounding win is seen as a major morale booster for the ruling alliance and sets the stage for future political contests in the state.
