Mahayuti Sweeps Maharashtra Civic Polls: Fadnavis Hails 75% Nagar President Win
Mahayuti Wins Big in Maharashtra Civic Elections

The ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Ajit Pawar, secured a resounding victory in the recent municipal council and nagar panchayat elections across Maharashtra. The results, declared on Sunday, are being hailed by the coalition leaders as a clear endorsement of their governance and a precursor to success in the upcoming major municipal corporation polls.

Leaders Hail Victory as Mandate for Governance

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing the media in Nagpur, expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra. He stated that his prediction of 75% of the nagar council presidents coming from the Mahayuti alliance had been validated by the election outcome. "Nearly 3,300 corporators are from the Mahayuti. Once again BJP is the number one party with 48% of the nagar presidents," Fadnavis said. He emphasized that the alliance has replicated its assembly election performance and confidently predicted an even stronger showing in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections.

Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde described the poll results as a "trailer" for the larger civic battles ahead. He used a cricket analogy, forecasting that the BJP would "score a century" while his Shiv Sena would notch up a "half-century with a strong strike rate" in the upcoming polls. Shinde highlighted that the mandate proved his party's expansion beyond its traditional strongholds of Thane and Mumbai into smaller towns and regions like Konkan and Raigad.

Political Barbs and Regional Dominance

In a veiled attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Shinde remarked that voters preferred leaders who work on the ground, implying that "those sitting at home met the same fate." He further claimed that the total number of seats won by the combined opposition was less than what his Shiv Sena alone secured in these local body elections.

The elections also served as a critical test for Deputy CM Ajit Pawar's NCP faction following the party split. The results in Baramati and Pune district delivered a clear win for his group, reinforcing his dominance in the region. Pawar succinctly noted that the people's choice was evident, stating one must see whom they are standing with.

Credit Given to Governance and Ground Presence

State BJP president Ravindra Chavan credited the victory to CM Fadnavis's transparent governance and people-oriented decisions. He asserted that the opposition was conspicuously absent from the ground during the campaign. Chavan also pointed out that the government's prompt compensation to farmers was acknowledged by the electorate, which directly contributed to the Mahayuti's success.

The overwhelming performance in these local body elections has significantly boosted the morale of the ruling Mahayuti alliance. It sets the stage for a highly charged and confident campaign as the state prepares for the more significant municipal corporation elections, with the coalition leaders viewing this win as a firm indicator of continued public support.
