With the crucial Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections approaching, election officials in Mizoram's Lawngtlai district are taking proactive measures to ensure smooth polling operations, particularly focusing on road connectivity to remote areas.
Election Meeting Stresses Infrastructure Readiness
District Election Officer Donny Lalruatsanga convened a crucial meeting with Public Works Department officials and contractors on Saturday to address logistical challenges for the upcoming December 3 polls. The meeting, held at the DEO's office, brought together key stakeholders responsible for election infrastructure.
Lalruatsanga emphasized that reliable road connectivity is paramount for the successful conduct of elections, especially for transporting polling personnel to remote polling stations. He directed PWD officials to prepare comprehensive reports detailing current road conditions, accessibility status, and suitable vehicle types for each route.
Detailed Planning for Challenging Terrain
According to information from the State Election Commission, five polling stations within the LADC area remain inaccessible by regular vehicles. Among these challenging locations, four polling booths can only be reached on foot, while one station requires boat access.
The District Election Officer instructed PWD engineers and contractors to identify potential obstacles that might disrupt election logistics and provide regular updates to prevent delays. Election Officer Collin Hlychho also appealed for full cooperation between departments, emphasizing the need for effective communication and close coordination with election authorities.
Multi-Agency Collaboration for Election Success
The significant meeting saw participation from officials representing PWD Lawngtlai division, the Multi-Modal Project Division, and representatives from various road construction agencies including Shri Balaji Construction Company and 71 RCC.
The December 3 election will determine the composition of the 25-member Lai Autonomous District Council, making these logistical preparations critical for ensuring free and fair participation across all constituencies. The focus on road maintenance and accessibility highlights the election commission's commitment to inclusive democratic processes, even in the most challenging geographical conditions of Mizoram.
