In preparation for the upcoming civic body elections scheduled for February 23, the Palamu administration has implemented comprehensive security and monitoring measures across the district. Authorities have established a robust framework to ensure the integrity and smooth conduct of the electoral process, with a particular focus on areas adjacent to the Bihar border.
Extensive Surveillance Network Deployed
The administration has set up 10 static surveillance teams strategically positioned in key locations, including the Hussainabad Haidernagar Road and other sensitive zones near Bihar. These teams are tasked with maintaining constant vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents or electoral malpractices.
Additionally, seven flying squad teams have been mobilized, equipped to respond swiftly to any reports of irregularities or emergencies during the polling period. These squads will operate under the supervision of 33 sector magistrates who have been nominated to oversee the elections at the grassroots level.
Official Statements on Election Preparedness
Deputy Election Officer (Municipality) Ratan Kumar Singh emphasized the thoroughness of the arrangements, stating, "Static surveillance teams and flying squads have been set up and 33 sector magistrates nominated under the directions of the District Election Officer Municipality cum Deputy Commissioner Palamu Sameera S." This highlights the coordinated effort led by senior officials to uphold electoral standards.
Deputy Commissioner Sameera S provided further insights, noting the significance of the Harihurganj block, which will witness its first-ever nagar panchayat election. She remarked, "Harihurganj block will have nagar panchayat election for the first time. It's close to Bihar. Instructions have been given to maintain the sanctity of the election here." This underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring fair and transparent polls in this newly included area.
Strategic Deployment of Flying Squads
The seven flying squads have been allocated across various civic bodies to maximize coverage and effectiveness. According to the Deputy Commissioner, the deployment plan is as follows:
- Three squads will be stationed within the Medininagar municipal corporation limits.
- One squad each will be deployed in Bishrampur nagar parishad.
- One squad each will cover Chhatterpur nagar panchayat.
- One squad each will monitor Harihurganj nagar panchayat.
- One squad each will oversee Hussainabad nagar panchayat.
This distribution ensures that all participating civic bodies receive adequate monitoring support, with a balanced focus on both urban and rural constituencies. The administration's proactive measures aim to foster a secure environment for voters and candidates alike, reinforcing the democratic process in Palamu district.
