Dindigul: A police officer on election patrol died while on duty in Dindigul district on Thursday evening. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramakrishnan, attached to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID (NIBCID) of Ramanathapuram district, was deployed in the Ottanchathram and Idayakottai areas under the Ottanchathram assembly constituency.

Around 5:45 pm on Thursday, he experienced mild chest discomfort while patrolling near Ottanchathram. He suddenly fell unconscious and was rushed to the nearby Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

The officer was part of the security arrangements for the upcoming elections. He had been patrolling the area since morning and had no prior history of health issues, according to colleagues. The cause of death is suspected to be a heart attack, though a post-mortem examination will confirm the exact reason.
