The capital district of Thiruvananthapuram has taken a significant step towards the upcoming assembly elections with the publication of its draft voter list. District Collector Anu Kumari officially released the comprehensive draft as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
Key Figures and Constituency-Wise Breakdown
The draft list encompasses a total of 2,440,242 voters spread across the district's 14 assembly constituencies. However, the revision process has led to the exclusion of a substantial number of entries. A total of 4,07,665 individuals have been left off the list for various documented reasons.
The breakdown of these omissions is as follows: 92,279 are deceased persons, 1,54,049 are absent from their registered address, and 97,415 have relocated permanently. Additionally, the list identified 17,681 duplicate entries, while Booth Level Officers (BLOs) could not verify the details of 46,241 individuals. This means 14.31% of previous voters are currently excluded, with the remaining 85.69% now fully digitized in the system.
The constituency-specific voter counts published in the draft are: Varkala (1,76,865), Attingal (1,90,661), Chirayinkeezhu (1,87,012), Nedumangad (1,88,774), Vamanapuram (1,80,905), Kazhakkoottam (1,55,973), Vattiyoorkavu (1,55,903), Thiruvananthapuram (1,50,473), Nemom (1,61,816), Aruvikkara (1,74,501), Parassala (1,89,566), Kattakada (1,70,422), Kovalam (1,95,521), and Neyyattinkara (1,61,850).
Application Window and Process for Voters
The district administration has provided an opportunity for citizens to ensure their voting rights. Individuals whose names are missing, as well as those who have turned 18 years of age, can submit applications for inclusion. The deadline for all claims and objections is January 22.
The process is form-based and streamlined. New voters must apply online using Form 6, while Non-Resident Indian (NRI) or expatriate voters should use Form 6A. For requesting the removal of a name, such as in case of death or permanent relocation, Form 7 is to be used. Any corrections to existing details or changes in address within the constituency can be made by submitting Form 8.
Complaints regarding the draft list and requests for hearings must also be submitted by the same date. The final, revised electoral roll for the Thiruvananthapuram district is scheduled for publication on February 21.
Rationalization of Polling Stations
As part of the revision exercise, the district has also rationalized its polling infrastructure. To adhere to the Election Commission's norm of capping voters at 1,200 per polling station, a total of 440 new booths have been established across the constituencies.
The allocation of new polling stations is: Varkala (5), Attingal (7), Chirayinkeezhu (13), Nedumangad (42), Vamanapuram (19), Kazhakkoottam (50), Vattiyoorkavu (36), Thiruvananthapuram (55), Nemom (29), Aruvikkara (27), Parassala (42), Kattakada (33), Kovalam (53), and Neyyattinkara (29). This addition brings the total number of polling stations in the Thiruvananthapuram district to 3,173, which will be operational for the next assembly elections.
The publication of the draft list marks a critical phase in electoral preparedness, urging citizens to actively verify their enrollment status and participate in the democratic process by ensuring their names are correctly listed.
