Trichy District Conducts First EVM Randomization for Nine Assembly Constituencies
The first randomization of electronic voting machines (EVMs) designated for use in the nine assembly constituencies of Trichy was successfully conducted on Monday. This crucial electoral procedure was led by District Election Officer and District Collector V Saravanan at the election division office located within the Trichy district collectorate.
Transparent Process with Political Party Oversight
The randomization event was conducted with full transparency, featuring the presence of general observers and authorized representatives from all recognized political parties. This inclusive approach ensures that all stakeholders can witness and verify the fairness of the electoral preparation process.
The computerized random selection process involved a substantial quantity of election equipment:
- 7,906 ballot units (BU)
- 3,541 control units (CU)
- 3,810 voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) units
Election Commission's Technological System
The randomization was executed using the sophisticated EVM management system developed by the Election Commission of India. This specialized software ensures a completely impartial and verifiable allocation process that eliminates any possibility of human bias or manipulation.
The election office emphasized that this procedure guarantees transparency and fairness in allocating EVMs and VVPATs that have successfully passed the rigorous first level checking (FLC) process. Only equipment that meets all technical standards and security requirements is included in the randomization pool.
Distribution and Storage Protocol
Following the completion of the first randomization, constituency-wise lists detailing the allocated EVMs and VVPATs were immediately provided to all recognized national and state political parties. This documentation ensures that political representatives have complete information about which specific equipment will be used in their respective constituencies.
The allocated EVMs and VVPATs will now be handed over to the respective returning officers and assistant returning officers who will oversee their use during the upcoming election. These election materials will be securely stored in the strong rooms of their respective assembly constituencies until polling day, with strict security protocols in place to prevent any tampering or unauthorized access.
Future Steps in the Electoral Process
The election office has confirmed that once the list of contesting candidates is finalized, the detailed list of first randomized EVMs and VVPATs will also be shared with all contesting candidates. This additional transparency measure ensures that every candidate has access to complete information about the election equipment that will be used in their constituency.
This systematic approach to EVM allocation represents a significant step in preparing for free and fair elections in Trichy's nine assembly constituencies, with multiple layers of verification and transparency built into every stage of the process.
