Trichy District Administration Conducts Training for Home Postal Ballot Voting
In a significant move to enhance electoral accessibility, the Trichy district administration's election office organized a comprehensive training session on Wednesday. The session focused on facilitating postal ballot voting from home for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, ensuring their participation in the democratic process without physical barriers.

The training was led by District Election Officer and District Collector V Saravanan, who emphasized the importance of this initiative. The session brought together micro observers, presiding officers, and assistant presiding officers at the district collectorate, equipping them with the necessary skills and protocols to manage the home voting process efficiently.
Eligibility and Arrangements for Home Voting
The election office is implementing special arrangements to allow senior citizens aged above 85 years (AVSC) and persons with disabilities (AVPD) with a disability of not less than 40% to vote via postal ballot from their residences. This provision is specifically for those who are unable to visit polling stations in person due to mobility or health issues.
Scale of the Initiative in Trichy District
Across the nine assembly constituencies of Trichy district, a robust system has been put in place. A total of 83 mobile teams have been mobilized to visit the homes of eligible voters. According to official data, these teams will cover 4,947 senior citizens and 3,646 persons with disabilities who have already submitted Form 12D, expressing their willingness to utilize the postal ballot option.
Scheduled Visits and Contingency Plans
The home visits by mobile teams are scheduled to take place on April 13, 14, and 15. To ensure no voter is left out, a contingency plan has been established. If any voter is unavailable during these initial dates, a second opportunity will be provided on April 16 and 17. However, voters who fail to cast their ballot after two direct visits will not be permitted to vote at the polling station on April 23, highlighting the importance of timely participation.
Instructions for Officials and Monitoring
District Collector V Saravanan issued clear instructions to booth level officers, directing them to inform voters about the upcoming team visits via telephone calls on the day prior to the scheduled visit. This proactive communication aims to ensure voters are prepared and available. Additionally, micro observers have been tasked with closely monitoring the entire voting process to maintain integrity and transparency. They are required to record videos of the proceedings, while all teams must adhere to strict secrecy protocols to protect voter confidentiality.
This initiative underscores the district administration's commitment to inclusive elections, making voting more accessible for vulnerable groups and strengthening democratic engagement in Trichy.
