In a significant move to safeguard democratic rights, the Uttar Pradesh Congress has launched a major initiative to scrutinize the recently released draft electoral roll for the state. The party has directed its recently constituted district-level committees to undertake a thorough verification of the document to ensure no eligible voter is wrongfully removed from the list.
Grassroots Committees Activated for Verification
The party's directive mandates these district panels to work in close coordination with the presidents of the district and city Congress committees. Manish Hindwi, the vice-chairman of the UP Congress media department, outlined the structure and mission. He stated that these committees include senior leaders who will be responsible for overseeing all activities related to the Summary Revision of the electoral roll at the grassroots level.
Detailing their responsibilities, Hindwi explained, "Their duties involve guiding party workers, conducting physical verification of names proposed for deletion, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring no eligible citizen is excluded. Simultaneously, they will also oppose the inclusion of any ineligible names in the list." This two-pronged approach aims to clean the voter list while protecting the fundamental right to vote.
Focus on Protecting Vulnerable Voters
Earlier, UP Congress state president Ajay Rai emphasized the critical nature of this exercise. He called the right to vote the most powerful constitutional right guaranteed to every citizen. Rai expressed concern that voters from economically weaker sections, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minority communities were being selectively affected during the revision process.
In response, he declared that Congress workers across Uttar Pradesh would remain vigilant and active. Their primary goal is to assist these vulnerable sections of society, ensuring they are not disenfranchised due to oversight or error in the bureaucratic process.
A Systematic Effort for Electoral Transparency
Party sources described this initiative as a structured effort to ensure transparency and protect voting rights ahead of the upcoming elections. The district committees are not just conducting checks; they are also tasked with submitting regular reports on their findings to the state Congress leadership.
Furthermore, any instance of wrongful deletion or discrepancy identified will be formally flagged to the relevant election authorities. This systematic, report-based approach is designed to create an accountable process and serve as a watchdog mechanism during the crucial electoral roll revision period.
The Congress party's mobilization highlights the ongoing political preparations in Uttar Pradesh, with parties gearing up to ensure their supporter base is fully enrolled and ready to participate in the democratic process.
