In a significant gesture of recognition, the Delhi Police honoured 137 of its retiring personnel by conferring upon them honorary ranks during a ceremonial event held at the police headquarters on Wednesday.
A Ceremony of Honour and Appreciation
The event saw personnel retiring from the ranks of constable to sub-inspector being awarded badges of their next higher honorary rank. The ceremony was made more poignant as it was conducted in the presence of the retirees' family members, adding a personal touch to the official recognition. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha personally presided over the proceedings.
Recognising Dedicated Service
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Golcha explained that the proposal to grant honorary ranks on the date of retirement was conceptualised considering the limited promotion opportunities available during a police officer's service tenure. He lauded the immense contribution made by the retiring personnel to both the police force and society at large, extending his heartfelt best wishes for their post-retirement life.
The initiative followed the formal approval granted by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena. Special Commissioner of Police (HRD) Robin Hibu described the event as a meaningful step towards acknowledging the long and dedicated service of the police personnel who form the backbone of the force.
A Step Towards Boosting Morale
This move by the Delhi Police is seen as a major morale booster within the force. It formally acknowledges the years of hard work, risk, and dedication put in by personnel who may not have had the chance to rise through the ranks during their active service due to structural constraints. The ceremony underscores the department's commitment to honouring service beyond the operational call of duty.
The event successfully blended official protocol with emotional resonance, ensuring that the retirees' transition was marked with dignity and respect. It sets a precedent for recognising the unwavering commitment of those who serve in challenging roles within the law enforcement ecosystem.
