Prayagraj's Magh Mela 2026: Over 5,200 Signboards & Colour-Coded Routes Planned
5,200+ Signboards for Magh Mela 2026 Traffic in Prayagraj

In a major push to streamline the massive influx of pilgrims, authorities in Prayagraj have unveiled a comprehensive signage plan for the upcoming Magh Mela in 2026. The ambitious strategy involves the installation of over 5,200 signboards across the city and the mela grounds, designed to guide millions of visitors seamlessly.

A Multi-Layered Signage Strategy

The authorities have categorised the signboards into seven key types to cover every aspect of pilgrim movement. These signages will be strategically placed at critical points to prevent confusion and ensure smooth traffic flow. The identified locations include all major diversion points, district boundaries, and the boundaries of the mela area itself.

Furthermore, specific signboards will direct visitors to parking zones, holding areas, bus stands, and railway stations. Important intersections will also feature these guides. To ensure connectivity from neighbouring regions, signboards will be installed at diversion points on inter-district borders, creating a cohesive directional network leading to Prayagraj.

The Colour-Coded Navigation System

A standout feature of the new plan is the introduction of a colour-coded route system. Each of the seven primary routes leading into Prayagraj will be assigned a distinct colour on the signboards, making it incredibly easy for pilgrims to follow their path without relying on text.

The designated colour scheme is as follows:

  • Grey for the Jaunpur route
  • Mustard for the Varanasi route
  • Pink for the Mirzapur/Sonbhadra route
  • Violet for the Rewa/Satna route
  • Yellow for the Kanpur/Kaushambi route
  • Green for the Lucknow route
  • Brown for the Sultanpur route

This visual coding is expected to drastically reduce wrong turns and congestion, especially for those unfamiliar with the area.

Enhanced Safety and Accessibility Features

Going beyond basic directions, the plan incorporates user-friendly symbols, such as animals, on signboards to help pilgrims identify various locations and routes quickly. This is particularly aimed at assisting those with literacy challenges.

In a significant move for visitor safety, signboards at crucial spots like parking and holding areas will display all essential emergency contact numbers. This will include the mela helpline and the direct numbers of concerned officials, ensuring help is readily accessible during any crisis.

The comprehensive approach to signage for Magh Mela 2026 reflects a proactive effort by Prayagraj authorities to manage one of the world's largest religious gatherings. By leveraging clear visual cues and detailed information, the initiative aims to create a safer, more organised, and less stressful experience for every devotee converging on the holy sangam.
