The Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner, Banchha Nidhi Pani, issued a circular on Thursday to all department heads and zonal offices of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), urging them to adopt carpooling and public transport to conserve fuel. The directive targets employees working in the same municipal office compound or nearby areas, encouraging them to share rides via cars or two-wheelers.
Key Instructions from the Circular
The circular explicitly states that employees assigned for field visits should pool cars or two-wheelers. Officers traveling in the same direction or for similar tasks are required to share vehicles to reduce unnecessary fuel expenses. The document emphasizes, "Those going for field visits are instructed to pool cars or two-wheelers. Officers travelling in the same direction or for similar tasks must share vehicles to avoid unnecessary fuel expenses."
Promotion of Public Transport
Furthermore, the circular encourages employees to make maximum use of public transportation systems, including Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS), Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), and the Ahmedabad Metro. This initiative aims to promote sustainable commuting practices among municipal staff.
The move is part of the AMC's broader efforts to reduce fuel consumption and environmental impact, aligning with the city's green goals. Employees are expected to comply with these guidelines to contribute to fuel savings and operational efficiency.
