Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Construction Violations
In a decisive move to enforce urban safety and environmental standards, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed three major construction sites in the Gota ward. This action, carried out on Saturday, underscores the city's commitment to curbing dust pollution and ensuring public safety through rigorous inspections and penalties.
Surprise Inspections Reveal Major Violations
A specialized team from the AMC's Estate and Town Development Officer (TDO) department, operating in the North West Zone, conducted a surprise inspection at multiple construction sites. The inspection revealed that the Evera, S Plus, and Solo Bliss 2 projects had failed to install mandatory green nets and barricades, which are crucial for containing particulate matter and preventing dust from spreading into the surrounding areas.
These sites were found to be in direct violation of Ahmedabad's Good Construction Practice Policy, leading to their immediate sealing. Work has been officially halted until the necessary safety measures are implemented.
Heavy Fines Imposed for Safety and Pollution Offenses
In addition to the sealing, the Solo Bliss 2 site faced a significant penalty of ₹1 lakh. This fine was imposed for allowing heavy construction materials to spill onto public roads, creating a substantial traffic hazard that endangered commuters and disrupted local traffic flow.
The enforcement drive extended beyond Gota ward, with other areas also facing strict actions:
- A construction site in Bodakdev was fined ₹50,000 for causing excessive air pollution, highlighting the AMC's focus on environmental compliance.
- In the Thaltej ward, another developer received a ₹1 lakh penalty for failing to adhere to essential safety regulations, demonstrating the corporation's zero-tolerance approach to negligence.
Clearing Encroachments for Smoother Traffic
Simultaneously, AMC crews took proactive steps to improve urban infrastructure by clearing illegal encroachments from a 12-meter-wide service road. This road stretches from KD Hospital to Ognaj Circle, and the removal of obstructions is expected to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhance road safety for residents and visitors alike.
This comprehensive crackdown reflects the AMC's ongoing efforts to maintain high standards of urban development, prioritizing public health, safety, and environmental sustainability in Ahmedabad.
