Permanent Anganwadi Centres to Be Established in Parks
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has announced plans to construct permanent anganwadi centres within public parks across the twin cities. This initiative aims to provide long-term relief to hundreds of anganwadi centres currently operating from rented, congested, or dilapidated premises.
Relief for Existing Centres
According to municipal officials, many anganwadi centres have been struggling with inadequate space and poor building conditions. The move to parks will ensure safer and more spacious environments for children and staff. The project is expected to benefit over 300 anganwadi centres in the region.
“This is a significant step towards improving the infrastructure for early childhood education and care,” said a senior official from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. “By utilising park land, we can provide better facilities without additional land acquisition costs.”
Implementation and Timeline
The corporation has identified several parks that can accommodate the new centres. Construction is expected to begin within the next financial year, with completion targeted within 18 months. Each centre will be designed to include classrooms, play areas, and sanitation facilities.
Community and Government Support
The initiative has received support from local community groups and the state government. Officials believe that integrating anganwadi centres into parks will also encourage greater community involvement and outdoor activities for children. The project aligns with the state’s broader efforts to improve early childhood development services.
