The West Bengal government has commenced the process of filling up vacant positions across various departments. All administrative departments have been instructed to submit a detailed vacancy report by June 3, according to an official statement. This initiative aims to strengthen the administrative machinery and enhance public service delivery.
Circular Issued for Vacancy Review
A circular issued by the additional chief secretary of the finance department noted that a significant number of government posts have remained vacant for an extended period. Consequently, a thorough review of the current vacancy situation is necessary. Departments are required to prepare vacancy reports separately for departmental offices, directorates, and regional offices using a prescribed format. The government has directed that detailed reports be retained by the departments, while only consolidated and compiled reports should be submitted.
Justification for Direct Recruitment
The circular emphasizes that any proposal to fill posts through direct recruitment must be supported by adequate justifications. Each administrative department must prepare a detailed and consolidated report on all vacant positions under its jurisdiction as of May 1. An official clarified that reports must be submitted exclusively in soft copy format via Excel spreadsheets, divided into three separate sheets for department, directorate, and regional office. These should be sent from the official email IDs of the respective heads of departments or nodal officers to the designated email addresses of the finance department by June 3.
Compliance and Data Integrity
The government has cautioned departments against altering the prescribed template while compiling data. Information must be submitted with due diligence to ensure accuracy and consistency.
