In a move to enhance urban safety and infrastructure management, the Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has directed its officials to identify residential and commercial properties with compound walls exceeding the permissible height prescribed under the National Building Code (NBC). Owners of such properties will be issued notices to ensure compliance.
Commissioner Issues Directive
BECC Commissioner DS Ramesh issued the directive on Wednesday during a review meeting focused on the progress of development and engineering works across the corporation limits. Officials were instructed to conduct thorough inspections and take necessary action against violations as part of broader efforts to improve public safety and urban infrastructure management.
Focus on Dilapidated Structures
The commissioner also ordered the immediate identification of dilapidated and structurally unsafe buildings that pose a threat to public life and property. Officials have been asked to take stringent action, including demolition wherever required, and to submit weekly progress reports on the measures taken.
The crackdown aims to address long-standing concerns about building safety in Bengaluru, where rapid urbanization has often led to violations of building codes. The BECC's proactive approach is expected to set a precedent for other civic bodies in the city.
